How to Reach Galle

Galle is the main stop on the southern coastal railway line from Colombo Fort, and the ride hugs the coast for much of the way. Buses run frequently along the Galle Road, and expressway services from Colombo are faster. From Mirissa, Weligama and Matara, local buses along the coast road run constantly.

Getting Around Galle

The fort is entirely walkable and best explored on foot; the loop around the ramparts is the standard introduction. Tuk-tuks connect the fort with the bus stand, the railway station and the nearby beaches. The coastal train is a cheap way to reach Hikkaduwa to the north or Weligama and Matara to the south.
